So, i have been banned...
It seems like i have been punished for uploading the recent album "Gaming In Symphony".
It contains 1 arranged track from BioShock, and we are not allowed to post music from the whole BioShock franchise.
Luckily for me, that was a short (2 weeks) temporary ban. It could have been worse...
What are my thoughts about this ?
I don't blame Leon for banning me about this, i wish getting banned would be a "cooler" experience.
- You don't get any warning
- You only get a vague reason about your ban: all i got was "Banned for posting arranged music from Bioshock, which is not allowed."
- You can't get in touch with anyone (and especially moderators), for explanations/talking.
The more albums we are uploading, the more risk we take, it's very easy to forget about what is forbidden or not.
At first i thought it was for a very old upload i could have make, maybe the BioShock EP, but it was not that. Not knowing which album/track got you banned is frustrating.
I don't know if Leon was "easy on me" or if that's the normal treatment for uploading 1 "wrong" track.
I uploaded around 1000 albums in the last 16 months. Maybe something could be done for contributers that are uploading "a lot".
Maybe we could get a special status ? Or at least some kind of warning if any make a mistake.
Anyway, guys, i am glad to be back, until the next time.
- I don't give special treatment to anyone, regardless of the amount of contributions, why? Simple, really: because then we won't be able to ban anyone. Rules are rules, contributions don't (and shouldn't) act as some kind of shield;
- You've already been warned in the past, because you posted a soundtrack published by Materia Collective (which is also forbidden);
- As users, it is your responsibility to keep yourself "aware" of what's allowed and forbidden around here. The original "music that may NOT be posted for legal reasons" thread is in Film, TV and Classical Music Download Links (
Thread 49829
), but there has been a 1:1 copy of that thread "Sticky[ed]" in this part of the forum for a couple years, too (
Thread 214356
). Want to know something funny? At the time of this message, the content of those threads was last updated in 2017, that's plenty of time for you to take notice of it. Lastly, at least with regards to a few of those forbidden franchises/releases, bans date way back to before 2009 (yeah, before you ask for confirmation, I'm specifically talking about the Bioshock and BIOHAZARD/Resident Evil ones);
- Too vague of a reason? 1) It's still way more than what you'd get elsewhere; 2) Once again, knowing why you've been banned is your responsibility: I'm sure this will sound crappier than it actually is, but it concerns you, not me. My job's not to babysit you, nor tell you what you did wrong (technically speaking, we aren't even required to tell you the reason of your ban, we can leave that field blank and there won't be nothing wrong with the ban), so *shrugs*. I'm here to enforce the rules and help keep this board "clean". I hate repeating myself, but let's look at facts: the Shrine has had that thread about forbidden music+stuff at the top even back when Download Links was still a single. Messy. Forum (not split into VG/Movies/Anime/etcetera). You'll forgive me, if I won't lose sleep over directly banning someone;
- My inbox is full and I have no intention of clearing space, so private messages got disabled on my end, that's all. I never talked much with Jessie, Sarah and the rest of the team… To speak the truth, but I should probably still suggest you to try to reach Jessie, at least, if you want to discuss your ban. I haven't been told I should leave an open channel, also, let's not forget most of the Staff members are volunteers coming here on their own free time. I don't feel compelled to bother with variations on the: "What a maniac! WHY'D U BAN ME!?" theme, sorry, not sorry.
- "I uploaded around 1000 albums in the last 16 months. Maybe something could be done for contributers that are uploading "a lot".
Maybe we could get a special status ? Or at least some kind of warning if any make a mistake." - Tch. What a load of crap, you're basically suggesting the implementation of a system which would ensure users don't get punished when they should be. I have a better idea: maybe you could be more careful, if you want to stick around, folks. I'd be a bit more understanding if the Shrine didn't inform its users about what's forbidden, etcetera… But it did.
- I'm actually trying to be less harsh than I was, because I used to punish the "posting" of forbidden music with permanent bans, so, I guess I did go easy on you… Twice.
