I'm glad some people got something out of my quick Bible cover art. I thought I'd post a few more that I did for my personal collection in iTunes. They're not supposed to be super high quality designs, and many of them are just high resolution pictures cropped square simply because all I wanted was something to have displayed in iTunes instead of either a very low-res image or instead of a terrible official cover. So sorry that lots of these don't have the composer info or even the album title. Again, I simply found a lot of these images just for my own personal collection in iTunes and I'm simply not professional at design.

Little Children
Was never a big fan of the awkward naked Wilson and Winslet lying next to each other artwork, so I put together this instead.



Jaws
When the Intrada release came out, the artwork is so close to the original album that it looks funny to me in iTunes right next to each other. So I made this with a neat poster I found on deviantart. I originally did this for myself, so I'm sorry I don't know the artist who did it.



Close Encounters
Same reason for the Jaws image above. The two album arts I had when the LaLa Land release came out were just too close to each other, so I used the new 40th anniversary poster to put together something that looked a bit different.



Star Wars: Bounty Hunter
I never had good artwork for this awesome music from composer Jeremy Soule. One day I finally found this image and thought it would work just as-is for my iTunes artwork.



Splatoon 2. I haven't looked for official artwork recently, but when the game first came out I couldn't find anything so found some artwork and composed this image.



Arms
Same story here. there may be better art available now, but there wasn't when the game came out.



Then there are two video game remix albums that I disliked the artwork to. Some of you may be familiar so I am adding these to this post too.

Here are my custom covers for Alien�. (Finally�)
Music by Elliot Goldenthal.


I've never been a big fan of the film. I've always thought that it was boring and somewhat deviated too fast and too far from the previous entries storylines.
I always feel like I'm missing something, and every time I want to revisit the film I expect to find a new love for it, but it just never happens.

However, the music on the other hand, that's a different story. Elliot Goldenthal made a masterpiece here.
Although Goldsmith's score has all those memorable themes and romantic lush cues, and Horner's has the heart-pounding action pieces and jumpscares. I think this one is much easier and far more enjoyable to listen to by itself.
This is also the one where I think the film benefits the most from the music out of the series. The 20th Century Fox logo doesn't even end before the terror starts, and the piece 'Adagio' is one of Goldenthal's finest musical moments.

For this series I wanted to keep it simple. I wanted to convey what the film was essentially advertising at the time; we're back to one Alien again or "The Bitch is Back".
So for #1 we have a basic starfield with logo in the center and the creature slightly hidden in the background.
#2 is also just a straightforward rendition based on one of the Blu-ray releases ( https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Alien3-Blu-ray/178097/ ).

#6 uses the fantastic art of one of the Dark Horse Comics covers.

#8 is a vinyl inspired cover that actually uses a close-up of a model of the head of the Alien.

Oh I don't know. Whenever an artist decides to release a single for an upcoming album, or for when there's a solo track that isn't on an album (just like that particular Halloween remix).

Besides, I'm sure you'd much rather there be an image than a plain paper insert with just track info. :p

It's a great cover, don't get me wrong, but I always amalgamate those "outliers" into some existing album that I have. For example I put Johnny Cash's Hurt and When The Man Comes Around at the end of Logan.

Venom 2018 Covers

Took a break from doing the Godzilla 2014 score to make some Venom covers.

I really like the red version, but it really makes it busy and hard to read. I guess if you like to read the text, the white's better. If you like staring at Venom's teeth and eyes, the red forces you to look into the center more (looks better as a thumbnail too; the white seems blank from afar).





Ah well. Back to working on Godzilla 2014's complete film score.

Fantastic release by the way; primo Williams.

A very good Williams score. I mean, yeah, he has his ups and downs (not too big of a fan of "The Witches of Eastwick", "The Book Thief", and "War of the Worlds". "The Force Awakens" is growing to me but I love TLJ a lot more). However, this one's good for those who want to listen to his non-Lucas/Spielberg/Richard Donner stuff (I wished he did "Superman II", but I guess he was busy composing and conducting "The Empire Strikes Back" at the time). He's one of my favorites next to John Barry, James Horner, Howard Shore, Vangelis, and Jerry Goldsmith.

Question: if you can’t find a decent high resolution image to work with, but only lower resolution pictures instead then what do most of you do? Enhance as you enlarge it for use or just look for another image?

Unless it's a hard edged graphic, the most I've ever been able to bump up an image is about 10%. You need it bigger than that keep looking or chose a different image. (And even with hard edged graphics, you're pretty much using it for position only while you reconstruct it over top of the old one.)

No matter how enlarged, I would suppose it all depends on the degree of apparent pixelation, as well as how it can be addressed using something like an unsharp mask filter.

And in the end, it might not be worth all the trouble so it would be easier to just find an alternative. If the image isn't too small and could be enlarged, the unsharp mask might be of help but it will still look like something very soft.

When the image is still soft, I use the filter "Camera Raw filter" in which I play with the sharpening tool that is much more refined than the classic "Unsharp Mask" plus It allows you to add some photographic grain which helps making a low detail picture look like a 35mm photo.

It's reasonably sharp and one of the better images of this I could find, but you can see the flaws.

Keep looking. A low-res image most of the time ruins any cover. One thing to try: open Google Image Search and upload it to search for similar images, maybe you'll get lucky.

It's an online service to upscale images using neural networks and machine learing. I only did try it once, but the result was remarkable. It won't work for every image and you only get to try out 5 images as free user, but it's the best I've seen so far.

Again, this is far from perfect, but it might do the trick for you.

I'd say move the top text down just above the film title and make it smaller or change it to "Original Soundtrack" only.
But all in all this is a great cover. Did you make this design? It's great and I haven't seen it anywhere else before.
I wanted to work on a covers series for this film so bad, but all material they've released so far is just dull.

DAK sent it to me. All in all I don't know which (if any) of my designs he ultimately went with. I suppose I could be inclined to revisit this. Thanks for the kind words ;)

Well done. It�s better than the commercial cover. Casper is my Horner grail. Yes, even over Titanic and Avatar. Isn�t it one of the gazillion films he scored in 1995? :laugh:

I won't know the answer to that for a little while. People can think whatever they want, but I knew this was a custom cover thread, and I needed help with upscaling since I've not been doing covers in years.

In the end got something better since my upscaled version of the images I linked was nowhere near as good.

To me, "campy" fits more with "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" or John Waters films ("Pink Flamingoes", "Hairspray", "Cry Baby"). "Total Recall" is anything but camp.

It irks me when people calls the Roger Moore Bond films "camp" or if "Total Recall" or "Blade Runner" are categorized as camp. That's just me, of course.

I won’t directly state the Moore Bond films are camp, however you have to admit there’s a certain amount of cheeze in them. But he’s my favorite Bond and TSWLM is one of my favorite Bond films.
